Project Overview

Mayer Construction’s latest Commercial project encompassed the refurbishment of multiple spaces within Brunei Hall, all aimed to deliver the highest possible specification.

Our brief was to renovate 38 self-contained student accommodation units within two Grade II listed buildings, as well as the full external refurbishment of seven Grade II listed buildings.

To carry out the external work, we brought in teams of specialist craftsmen to restore the building to its former glory. A mansard roof extension in lead and welsh slate formed 4 new lower roofs with coverings, which are balanced by extensions to the rear façade. This work included extensive masonry repairs and repointing, new windows to complement existing timber windows and a full refurbishment of the front façade.

Internally, works included numerous improvements to the existing building, including new mechanical and electrical systems, a complex fire strategy and a state-of-the-art security system.

Each self-contained apartment has been designed to offer maximum comfort, featuring a bedroom and an en suite with a full height wet room. Our work to refurbish shared areas brings out the best in the listed building, including a new bespoke stone counter levered staircase to match the existing staircase. While rebuilding six traditional timber staircases, we were able to recreate the ceilings and cornices that the property deserves.
